The HSI climbed 378 pts or 1.9% to close at 20,162 by midday; the HSCEI rose 142 pts or 2.1% to 6,872; the HSTECH swelled 112 pts or 2.7% to 4,256. The half-day turnover of the market aggregated $82.826 billion.

Companies of the Alibaba series ascended after BABA-SW (09988.HK) announced a major overhaul on its organizational structure to set up six major business groups. BABA-SW shot up 13.2% to $95.35. SUNART RETAIL (06808.HK) soared 12.9%. ALI HEALTH (00241.HK) and ALI PICTURES (01060.HK) burgeoned 5.7% and 3.1%, respectively.

TENCENT (00700.HK) inched up 2.1% to $386.1 after announcing to launch a WeChat version of Zhihu -- "Wen Yi Wen" search feature. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) ballooned 4.8% to $160.1, while JD-SW (09618.HK) and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) mushroomed 2.6% and 2.7%, respectively.

Electric vehicle makers were also ebullient. BYD COMPANY (01211.HK), which reported a 446% upsurge in its 2022 net profit, rose 3.2% to $218.2. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) and LEAPMOTOR (09863.HK) edged up 4.5% and 5.4%, respectively, while XPENG-W (09868.HK) gained 3.4%.
