Apple (AAPL.US)’s iPhone shipments in China fell 3.1% in 2Q, while Android smartphones grew 11% YoY, making Apple no longer one of China's top five phonemakers for the first time in four years, according to data released by IDC, a market research firm.

IDC analyst Will Wong said a YoY growth in iPhone shipments could be seen from April to May, especially when preparations for the 618 shopping festival were underway in April. However, its sales in June slowed as its offline partners were reluctant to offer more discounts in June.

IDC data indicates that a surge of 50% in Huawei's shipments last quarter, together with fierce competition from China’s phonemakers including Vivo and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), have pushed Apple down to the sixth-largest phonemaker in China.

In addition, Canalys, a market research firm, reported that iPhone shipments in China dropped 3.9% last quarter.
