Daiwa wrote in its research report that WeChat's new gifting feature, while still under testing, is expected to boost short-term demand, benefiting categories such as cosmetics, toys, snacks, and health foods.

The broker believed that this new feature could have a significant impact on certain consumer brands during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday by creating new consumption scenarios for young consumers. POP MART (09992.HK), Proya (603605.SH), and Three Squirrels (300783.SZ) are among those anticipated to benefit.

The broker also noted that the GMV of WeChat stores remained relatively small, but with product upgrades and increased traffic allocation in mid-2024, this area seems to have become a key focus for TENCENT (00700.HK) to monetize through its WeChat platform.
