The HSI opened 48 points higher this morning (18th) but briefly dipped 8 points in early trading. After regaining upward momentum, it surged 418 points at one point to surpass the 23,000 mark and hit an over four-month high of 23,034. It last traded at 22,906, up 290 points or nearly 1.3%, on a turnover of $128.173 billion. Heavyweight tech stocks thrived. TENCENT (00700.HK) and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) rose 1.1-1.8%. BABA-W (09988.HK) swelled 4.4%. KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) mushroomed 5.2%. Additionally, XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) reached a historical high of $48.15 in early trading as it will launch the Mi Home central air conditioner at the end of the month. It last traded at $47.5, up 5.2%, on a turnover of $8.177 billion. Online medical platform stocks were vigorous. ALI HEALTH (00241.HK) and JD HEALTH (06618.HK) rebounded 4.5-5.7%. Car stocks gained traction. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK) spiked 4.5%, while LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) and BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) added 1.7-2.9%. Poised to announce its results tomorrow (19th), HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) climbed to $87.1. It was last at $87.05, up 1.81%, on a turnover of $1.434 billion. HANG SENG BANK (00011.HK), also set to release its results on the same day, inched down 0.7%. Meanwhile, AIA (01299.HK) and HKEX (00388.HK) edged up 0.5-1.1%. Hong Kong developers lagged behind the market. HENDERSON LAND (00012.HK) and SHK PPT (00016.HK) last tumbled about 2%. WHARF REIC (01997.HK), CK ASSET (01113.HK), LINK REIT (00823.HK), and MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK) waned 0.2-1.6%. Certain Chinese consumers were dull.
