The WeChat official account of a state-run media in China published an article discussing the 'backdoor' issue of Nvidia (NVDA.US)'a H20 AI chips. The article said that experts believe functions such as 'location tracking' and 'remote shutdown' can be technically implemented. According to the US design, the “backdoor” can enable functions such as permission lock, location tracking, usage monitoring and usage restrictions, the article added. From any perspective, the H20 chip is neither safe nor environmentally friendly for China, nor is it an advanced chip. Therefore, China, as a consumer, naturally has the option not to purchase it. Cybersecurity is crucial to the company, and there are no 'backdoors' in the company's chips, nor do they provide any means for remote access or control, CNBC quoted a Nvidia's spokesperson as saying. The company similarly denied last Tuesday (5th) the allegations from China that its AI chips contain hardware features that can be remotely disabled.
