Death Toll from Fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po Rises to 151 w/ 40+ Still Missing

The Hong Kong Police provided an update on the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po saying that searches of Wang Yan House, Wang Tao House, Wang Kin House, Wang Tai House and Wang Shing House over the past two days have been completed. Search operations commenced this morning (1st) at Wang Cheong House and Wang Sun House. As of approx. 4:00 pm today, the death toll rose to 151, with 39 bodies still awaiting identification. Over 40 individuals remain unaccounted for, and the death count may continue to rise. All eight newly discovered and removed bodies originated from Wang Cheong House, with three being victims previously identified by firefighters. Police said that search operations at Wang Cheong House and Wang Sun House are currently approx. 25% and 75% complete each. This stems primarily from Wang Cheong House being the building where the fire started frist and where it took longer to fully extinguish, resulting in extremely hazardous conditions inside. The Disaster Victims Identification Unit will conduct thorough searches of the site, striving to find all deceased individuals or any items and clues that may aid in identifying them.
