The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has indicated that it may prohibit CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK), CHINA TELECOM (00728.HK), and CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK) from accessing US networks.

The FCC has requested these three telecom companies to resolve certification issues in the FCC's robocall database. If the FCC removes these companies from the database, all intermediate operators and voice service providers handling calls in the US must cease directly answering calls from all three of them.

On the grounds of national security, the FCC has warned that regulatory authorities may remove from the database telecom companies that cannot provide convincing evidence that they won't pose a threat to national security and are in the public interest.

The FCC has given the three Chinese telecom companies two weeks to respond.
