The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) said that the recent spike driven by retail investors in gold prices has transformed gold from its traditional role as a safe haven into a more speculative asset, Bloomberg reported.

According to the report, while the current rise in gold prices may be triggered by institutional traders seeking safe haven exposure amid perceived high stock valuations, retail investors' entry to catch the wave has fueled the upward surge.
