HSI Deepens Loss to 300 Pts After Midday; Copper/ Aluminum/ Gold Miners Squeezed

Stretching yesterday's downswing, the HSI deepened its loss after midday. It last printed at 25,465, down 300 points or nearly 1.2% on a turnover of about HKD123.6 billion, underperforming the region.

H-shares of the non-ferrous sector were subdued, and copper miners saw a hefty sell-off today. Blue chip ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) last traded at HKD32.4, down 4.54%, on a turnover of HKD1.063 billion. CMOC (03993.HK) was last at HKD17.72, down 7.47%, on a turnover of HKD989 million. JIANGXI COPPER (00358.HK) last printed at HKD33.5, down 6.74%, on a turnover of HKD709 million. CHINFMINING (01258.HK) last dropped by 6.65% to HKD15.73, on a turnover of HKD150 million. MMG (01208.HK) last traded at HKD8.1, down 3.34%, on a turnover of HKD542 million.

Aluminum stocks were squeezed. Blue chip CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) last printed at HKD31.26, down 4.11%, on a turnover of HKD770 million. CHALCO (02600.HK) was last at HKD10.73, down 6.04%, on a turnover of HKD399 million. NANSHAN AL INTL (02610.HK) last slipped by 3.21% to HKD44.02, on a turnover of HKD35.1614 million. Semi-IPO CHUANGXIN IND (02788.HK) last traded at HKD17.02, down 2.85%, on a turnover of HKD61.521 million.

Gold stocks trended downward. SD GOLD (01787.HK), ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK), ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK) and CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK) receded by 3-3.9%. LINGBAO GOLD (03330.HK) also faded by 1.4%.
