ByteDance, in collaboration with ZTE, launched an engineering prototype equipped with the preview version of the Doubao Mobile Assistant on December 1, BOC International said in a report. Its core selling point is the ability to execute automated AI Agent operations across applications through voice commands. The innovative features such as shopping price comparison and itinerary planning precisely meet consumer expectations for AI phones, creating high social media buzz. However, immediately after the product launch, it encountered usage restrictions from multiple software platforms. Initial user feedback indicated that abnormal login environments triggered account bans when operating on WeChat; several bank apps and Alibaba applications identified non-human operation risks, refusing to execute sensitive commands. Facing widespread industry resistance and usage restrictions, the Doubao team was forced to urgently remove the operational capabilities for WeChat and financial applications on December 3 and 5. BOC International invited industry experts in mobile intelligent assistants for discussions, and unanimously agreed that mobile AI assistants are progressively reaching an inflection point in application. The design of the basic underlying technology stack is relatively mature, while the main stagnancy stems more from the friction wreaked by differing interests among internet service providers, mobile hardware manufacturers, and regulators. The broker viewed that 2026 will be a year of extensive development for AI mobile assistants, and products with AI mobile assistant functions will be launched successively in the coming quarters. It envisioned the release of the Doubao Mobile Assistant will sharply strengthen the FOMO mentality among mobile manufacturers, leading to early investment and upgrades in functional hardware related to edge AI, such as SoC, storage, battery life, cooling, and sensors.
