China is requiring chip manufacturers to use at least 50% domestically made equipment when adding new production capacity, in order to promote the establishment of a self-sufficient semiconductor supply chain, Reuters quoted sources as saying.

In recent months, chipmakers applying to build new or expand existing factories have been informed by relevant departments that they must prove through procurement tenders that at least half of their equipment is made in China, insiders revealed.
