Warren Buffett handed over the CEO position of his investment flagship Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A.US)(BRK.B.US) to Greg Abel starting New Year's Day, ending his six-decade leadership tenure, CNBC reported.

Buffett had previously stated that he would remain quiet after stepping back, indicating reduced public exposure, although he retains the position of Chairman of Berkshire's board. Abel will be responsible for writing the company's annual shareholder letter, continuing the tradition since 1965, while Buffett will continue to write Thanksgiving messages.
