Motivated by the surge in AI spending, the global issuance of convertible bonds (CBs) reached approximately US$166.5 billion in 2025, marking a 24-year high, slightly below the historical record, foreign media reported.

Companies such as BABA-W (09988.HK), Lumentum, CoreWeave (CRWV.US), and Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US) are actively issuing CBs for AI-related investments, including data centers, cloud computing, and high-performance infrastructure.

Although North America still reportedly accounts for the majority of the CB market, Asia has played a key role in the recent recovery of this asset class. Alibaba raised US$3.2 billion in its issuance last September, while CPIC (02601.HK) and PING AN (02318.HK) raised US$2 billion and US$1.5 billion respectively through CBs.
