Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng stated last Friday (16th) in Beijing during a China-Canada trade and investment dinner attended by visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that both China and Canada should adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, win-win cooperation, and mutual achievements to jointly promote stable, healthy, and sustainable development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

China is steadfastly expanding high-level opening-up and continuously developing new productive forces, willing to create a new cooperative landscape with countries worldwide, including Canada, the Chinese Vice Premier said.

During the dinner, Carney announced that Canada will import 49,000 mainland electric vehicles (EVs) at a most-favored-nation tariff rate of 6.1%, indicating the end of Canada's 100% tariff measure on mainland EVs, returning to pre-trade friction tariff levels.

Carney stated that Canada needs to learn from China and jointly establish a supply chain to fully unleash the potential of bilateral cooperation and reduce consumption costs for Canadian citizens, so as to build a competitive domestic EV industry.
