US President Donald Trump announced a pause of new tariffs on Europe and a framework agreement on Greenland with NATO, leading to a rapid upswing in market sentiment. US bourse mushroomed Wednesday, with the three major indices posting neck-to-neck gains. The DJIA shot up over 800 points, or 1.7%, at one point, closing above 49,000. It ended the day up 588 points or 1.2%, closing at 49,077. The S&P 500 added 78 points or 1.2%, finishing at 6,875. The Nasdaq soared 270 points or 1.2%, reaching 23,224. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump had stated that Greenland would not be acquired by force, and US stocks rebounded early in the session. Techs led the rebound, with chip stocks attracting capital inflows. NVIDIA (NVDA.US) leaped 3%. Intel (INTC.US) set a new 52-week high, up 11.7% for the day, making it the best performer among Nasdaq 100 constituents.
