<Research>Daiwa Expects Iran Conflict Escalation to Trigger Panic Demand in ST

In response to the escalation of military actions between the US/Israel and Iran into a war level, Daiwa released a research report saying that global logistics supply chain has entered a new round of disruptions due to the suspension of services by shippers and airlines in the affected regions. Although some container shipping companies had plans to resume Red Sea routes earlier, the heightened geopolitical tensions are likely to delay the resumption of these routes, Daiwa noted. Even though US President Donald Trump expected the conflict to end in 'about four weeks,' the escalation is likely to trigger panic demand in the short term, while reducing the capacity of ships and aircraft. Although potential freight rate increases may benefit the share prices of shippers such as oil tankers, containerships and dry-bulk operators, it is believed that a prolonged war would be detrimental to the overall market sentiment.
