HSBC will begin charging personal customers for counter cheque deposits starting in May.

The latest fee adjustment aims to encourage the use of other free-of-charge self-service channels like cheque deposit machines, mobile applications, and cheque deposit boxes, so that HSBC can provide a better service experience to customers with different needs, the bank's spokesperson said.

The bank also believes the adjustment is at a market-acceptable level after considering various factors. Additionally, individuals under 18 or aged 65 or above, recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, government disability allowance recipients, and those with physical or visual disabilities will be exempt from the counter cheque deposit fee.
