US President Donald Trump put off the deadline for lifting the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz concerning Iran, prompting an uptick in global stock markets, with Hong Kong stocks ascending. The HSI closed up 681 points or 2.8% to 25,063. The HSCEI soared 191 points or 2.3% to close at 8,499. The HSTECH hiked 118 points or 2.5% to close at 4,830. The total market turnover for the day was HKD303.073 billion.

In the financial sector, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) and HKEX (00388.HK) leaped 4% and 2.4%, respectively, whereas AIA (01299.HK) rallied 7.2%, and STANCHART (02888.HK) mounted 5.7%. Among Chinese financials, CITIC BANK (00998.HK) swelled 5.2%; CHINA TAIPING (00966.HK) spiked 4.7%; and PING AN (02318.HK), PICC P&C (02328.HK), and CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) each rebounded over 3%.

As oil prices sank, CNOOC (00883.HK) shed 3.5%, while energy transportation stock COSCO SHIP ENGY (01138.HK) proliferated 7.8%. Airlines CHINA SOUTH AIR (01055.HK) and AIR CHINA (00753.HK) jumped up 4.3%, and CHINA EAST AIR (00670.HK) mushroomed 7.3%.

Metal commodity prices picked up, with gold miners ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK), ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK), and CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK) leaping 7.2-8.2%, LINGBAO GOLD (03330.HK) rocketing 10%, SD GOLD (01787.HK) and ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) snowballing 4.2% and 6%, respectively. Gold jewelry retailer LAOPU GOLD (06181.HK) forecast net profit of approximately RMB3.6-3.8 billion in 1Q26, and its share price shot up by more than 16%.

As to techs, TENCENT (00700.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK), and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) surged 2.9-3.2%. KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), BILIBILI-W (09626.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK), and BIDU-SW (09888.HK) added 2-2.6%, NTES-S (09999.HK) inched up 0.7%, EAST BUY (01797.HK), and KINGSOFT CLOUD (03896.HK) ballooned 6.6% and 5%.
